We utilise advanced X-ray characterisation in both laboratory and synchrotron settings to provide detailed and nuanced information on (pharmaceutical) samples.

X-ray diffraction (XRD) provides information on the long range crystalline structure of a compound, and can differentiate between polymorphs.  XRD requires crystalline solids.

X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) provides information on the local electronic and geometric structure, i.e. chemical environment of the compound.  It is element specific, can also differentiate between polymorphs, and importantly does not require crystalline structure so can be used on liquids as well as solids.

These techniques are useful individually, however the combination of both is extremely powerful due to the complimentary information.
